Healthy Wife FAIL…let me explain.

Recently, I’ve been taking some heat from my little brother-in-law, Ryan.  If you haven’t met Ryan, let me introduce him to you.  He works out every single day.  He places in every race he runs.    You could do your laundry on his abs.  He eats pine nuts and hummus.  Case in point:

He’s the second from the left in front, and sorry ladies, he’s taken.

So, when Ryan heard that Mike and I had invited his parents over for hamburgers on the Weber, he acted in true little brother fashion and accused “the healthy wife” of being a hypocrite (and I still love him).  So, for everyone else who thinks there’s no way I can eat healthy food every single day…you’re right!  I’m blogging about a healthy lifestyle, not just healthy food.  I’m done with crash dieting for a week and going straight back to take-out.  Don’t even get me STARTED about those cleanse things that people do!  Perhaps someday I’ll write a post about what happened when I ate too much edamame—but for now, heed my warning and DON’T try it.

Anyways, my point is that I’m blogging about a healthy lifestyle and not just healthy food.  I think that inviting our parents over for a nice, relaxing summery meal on our deck fits right into a healthy lifestyle.  Healthy relationships are very important, especially the relationships within your own family.  I consider myself extremely blessed to have two wonderful, loving families, and I am more thankful for them than anything else I could ever have.  The older I get and the more I change paths in life, my family has always been there.  Mike and I had a great time with his parents on the deck last night, and I’m hoping we can do it again before summer ends.

While I’m on the topic of last night’s meal, I made some baked beans that were to die for in my slow cooker.  I looked up about ten recipes and came up with this (unhealthy) concoction:

2 cans baked beans
1/3 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup ketchup
½ an onion, chopped
½ a green pepper, chopped
2 tsp. minced garlic
1 Tbsp. mustard
1 tsp. Worchestershire sauce
1 tsp. apple cider vinegar
3 slices cooked bacon
2 Tbsp. BBQ sauce
Dash of Cayenne pepper

Throw it all in a crock pot and wait for it to heat up!

Cheers--
Lesley
